The centerpiece of the BWP --and all NWP sites-- is an invitational summer institute in which teachers are brought together for an intensive, four-week seminar designed to enhance writing education by:

  • Providing a setting for teachers to share their most successful writing practices,
  • helping institute participants broaden their teaching philosophies through an examination of writing theory and research,
  • allowing participants to commit themselves intensely and reflectively to the process of writing by writing themselves and by reviewing each other's written pieces.

     

    Important dates for the Summer Institute:

    • Pre-Institute:     April 18, 2009     9:00-12:00 p.m.                  

                               May 16, 2009       9:00-12:00 p.m. 

    • Summer Institute: June 8-July 2, 2009  8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m

     

Admission to the institute is invitational. Nominees submit an application and finalists are selected through personal interviews.
