What is a legacy?
A legacy is something you leave behind
that will benefit others-perhaps those yet unborn. An
elderly Wellesley College alumna once told me that she
was taught as a young college student decades ago, "you
drink from wells you didn't dig." Years before,
Wellesley alumnae and friends left a legacy to her of
a better college than they found when they arrived.
Why LEAVE A LEGACY® ?
Consider for a moment the charitable
organizations that have positively impacted your life,
your family members, or friends' lives. This could be
your church or other religious organization, the Boy
or Girl Scouts, your local hospital foundation, and/or
your college foundation. Are you already an annual donor
to one or more of those sorts of organizations? A charitable
bequest in your will could endow your gift for the future
of an organization.
What is the LEAVE A LEGACY® program?
The LEAVE A LEGACY® program is an
attempt by attorneys, accountants, life insurance agents,
financial planners, stockbrokers, and non-profit organizations
across the United States to get the average citizen, young
or old, to realize that he or she:
(1) needs a will and/or other
estate planning tools and techniques, and
(2) should consider giving some portion of his
or her estate to charitable organizations.

In Georgia, that program is called
LEAVE A LEGACY® Georgia. The Valdosta State University
Foundation, Inc. and scores of other charitable organizations
across Georgia have banded together with the legal and
financial professionals noted above to get this message
out to the general public.
What's your first step?
Collect your family and financial
information. Talk with an estate-planning attorney and
with your other financial advisors. Consider a charitable
bequest in your will to the Valdosta State University
Foundation, Inc. (Federal Tax ID 58-1582136) and/or
other organizations.
What's your second step?
Let us recognize you as a member of
VSU's Order of the Dome. Please call VSU's Director
of Planned Giving and Major Gifts Sandra Fletcher, toll-free
at 800-464-3638 or directly at 229-333-5939. Knowledge
of your potential bequest helps us with our strategic
planning for an even better VSU for the next 100 years.
At VSU, we're celebrating our past and building our
future. Please join our efforts. |
