The Valdosta State University Foundation, Inc.

The Valdosta State University Foundation (VSUF) was founded in 1963 to assist the University in its vision of teaching, research, and service. There are many constraints on how public monies may be spent. Private gifts provide a margin of excellence. It does so by attracting distinguished alumni and friends to lead the effort to raise private support to enhance the ever decreasing state funding. These private gifts are the key to giving the University the resources to be the premier regional institution of higher learning in the state.

According to recent data from the University System of Georgia, private support has comprised approximately 30% of the budgets for state colleges and universities. State funding is only about 38%. At present, VSU is fortunate to receive approximately 40% of its budget from state taxpayers’ appropriations. These figures illustrate how vitally important private gifts are to higher education in Georgia and especially to Valdosta State.
