Why should I support the Faculty & Staff Campaign for VSU?

Funds from tuition and the state of Georgia comprise only 60% of VSU’s operating budget.  The remaining 40% comes from individuals like you.  You can make your gift to a wide variety of funds that either directly or indirectly support the following areas:

Academics - Excellence in teaching has long been a priority at VSU. The Faculty & Staff Campaign contributes to the success of our faculty by offering opportunities for professional and student development and research. Scholarship support allows VSU to attract and enroll a diverse and dynamic student body. Discretionary gifts that support VSU’s colleges and academic departments enable them to purchase the most up-to-date equipment and support student academic experiences.  Examples include providing funds for student and faculty travel as well as providing the ability to recognize student and professional accomplishments.

Arts - The College of the Arts at VSU offers a variety of cultural programs.  Programs such as the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, Peach State Summer Theatre, and the Music Scholarship Alliance all contribute in important ways to what makes South Georgia a great place to live and work. These activities are made possible by gifts and ticket patronage of faculty and staff, alumni, friends, and other members of the community.

Athletics - VSU's athletic program is quickly becoming one of the top programs in Division II and members of the Blazer Athletic Boosters are directly responsible for this accomplishment. Since the University System of Georgia Board of Regents requires athletic programs to be self-sufficient, the Blazer Athletic Boosters were formed to address the critical need for athletic scholarships. Your support can continue the successful program of athletics at Valdosta State University.

How do I fit in to the big picture?

Donations to educational institutions continue to rise. Educational institutions continued their philanthropic giving growth in 2006, and continuedto ranksecond place in regards to giving. Educational institutions received an estimated $40.98 billion in 2006, which is an increase of 9.8 percent from the 2005 revised estimate of $37.31 billion; trailing the 10.5 percent increase seen in 2005. In two years, giving to education rose 21.4 percent.

In 2006 an estimated 13.9 percent of total giving went to educational organizations, second only to religious organizations that received 32.8 percent of total giving.
Like you, many folks are realizing the importance of higher education and are choosing to spend their charitable dollars in this area. Thanks for helping us help our VSU students.

How much money is raised via the Faculty & Staff Campaign for VSU?

In 2007, donations to the Faculty & Staff Campaign at VSU totaled $127,266 with a participation rate of 45%. While last year's campaign was considered a success, this year we hope to increase not only our participation rate, but have also set a goal of $130,000 for the 2008 campaign.

The 2008 Faculty and Staff Campaign for VSU will begin October 1, 2007 and end November 22, 2007.
