Welcome back visitors!!!! Let me tell you what I did during my first few weeks at Valdosta State University……..

Move in Day was crazy!!! I live in Langdale Hall on the fourth floor so fraternities came out to help (THANK YOU GUYS!!!), as well as other strangers. There were tons of us everywhere. I mean we literally had to use the steps! The excitement went on and on--girls were greeting each other and slowly fixing up their rooms, and we all met our RA (residence assistant), who is really awesome! As we signed in for our key we went to the Palms Dining Center to eat--the food is awesome! All kinds of drinks and you get sweets too--much like home!

Many of us were happy to meet our roommates! I was especially! We talked before we came to school to plan things out, and everything went so smoothly. We sat there for like an hour or two and got our room set up just right. After that we went to the Wal-Mart for a few extra items, and I slowly realized everything centered right back to the school, so you could never get lost! Once we got back I saw tons of folks from my school!!! We all got into groups and walked around the campus to see where things were, and I discovered the locations for all my classes.

That night my RA knocked on everyone’s door and asked us to play Taboo in the lobby. Just about everyone came--as we played we each told a little about ourselves and what we planned to do. In such a little time everyone knew just about everyone on the hall.

Later that week I took a trip to the Itchetuknee River. I went tubing down the river?!?! My roommate, other halls and weird people who just showed up took a nice trip to Suwanee County Florida and tubed with us. The sight was amazing!! We saw all kinds of animals, snails, birds, spiders and even snakes of all kinds and sizes. The water itself was refreshing and the warmth from the sun made it a very soothing moment. We all took pictures afterwards showing how much we enjoyed ourselves.

That Sunday I went to church at Cross Point! I was glad I found a place to go because it would be different from home if I didn’t. I used that as a relaxing situation that could help me while I’m in school. Later that night I set up a nice schedule towards what I would be doing because managing time has became really important in school now. I made sure I was aware of what I wanted to do, in this case biology, because I would have to give my all to do it. I have constant reminders everywhere, from posters to bookmarks to remind me of my goal.

So school started August 13th, 2007--boy was it crazy, in a good way. I planned wisely though; note books, pens, highlighters, and textbooks for ever single class, and I did not go wrong. I figured the majority of class would be lecture, and I enjoyed it because my teachers made it interactive so we didn’t sit in class bored. I expected to get a lot of note taking done too, which seems like an efficient way to learn. I still held the buzz we had from move in day as I sat there and made friends with people so that it wouldn’t be so hard to find a study buddy.

After a few classe, I went to work at Odum Library. The staff is very friendly, and I feel better knowing I’m helping someone because people ask me questions all the time. After this went on for a few more weeks, I realized my studying skills were enhancing more, and I was managing time better. I joined Flag Football for our hall, and we practice all the time and hang out too. I also joined the Relay For Life committee. I do a little of everything, and I have to say my peers are cool and teach me all kinds of things every time we meet. We just recently got done doing sheet signs!!. All in all though my first few weeks here were awesome!!! Tune in next time!!
