Wow! I’ve just completed my first three weeks as a college student here at VSU, and I have nothing but good things to say.  The days themselves go by at a normal pace, but a few classes, a paper or two, and a dinner later and it’s the weekend already.  Being here for three weeks has given me the opportunity to explore most places on campus, and trust me the campus is much bigger than you think.  There were several places I never knew existed until I had class there the first day.  But, once you find your way around, getting somewhere is as easy as can be.

Move in day this year was somewhat stressful, but was handled very well.  I myself experienced somewhat of a mix up, in that they tried to place me in a room that I had not been assigned to.  However, after a while everything was straightened out and I even had extra help moving all of my stuff into my room.  Just a word of advice, get here early!  They won’t allow you to move in until 9 a.m. but I got here about 8:15, pulled right up in front, unloaded my stuff and was ready to go right at 9.  Another heads up, try and plan something with your roommate so you don’t show up at the same time.  One of you will get the choice of which side you want over the other, but two people trying to move in all there things at the same time…it just doesn’t work.  I actually moved in before my roommate, and was able to spread my stuff out all over the room and then organize it how I wanted.  Then, by the time my roommate arrived I had already moved in and was able to leave the room and give him the opportunity to do the same.  I live in Patterson and let me just say, it is by far the best residence hall of them all.  It was recently renovated and looks brand new.  Some of the other residence halls were also recently renovated, but Patterson by far is the best place to live.  The RA’s are great, and nobody here goes unnoticed.  If you were somewhat shy in high school, don’t let that hold you back.  There are always opportunities to meet new people.  Patterson constantly has a group of people outside on the front porch, and inside playing table tennis or watching T.V. until all hours of the morning, even during the week.  Just don’t stay inside your dorm all day, and you are bound to make a friend no matter where you are.  I know I may be rambling, but there are so many good things to say about Patterson.  One thing that I was unsure about was the whole bathroom situation.  I have never shared a room, let alone a bathroom especially with 20 other people.  However, I was pleasantly surprised when I found that there are hardly ever more than three people showering at a time, which still gives somewhat of a privacy feel that I have always been accustomed to.

These first few weeks of classes are much like the first few weeks of any class.  However, if you don’t show up, you are only hurting yourself.  Nobody is there to wake you up, there is no bell to tell you you’re late, but if you are…trust me, you’ll know.  Just make sure you plan your schedule wisely.  My earliest class starts at 10 am, which is great because I never have to wake up early.  Some words of advice…8 am courses are not a good idea.  You may be an early riser, but with all there is to do there you will ALWAYS be up late.  Next week I have three tests in a row which is going to be tough, but just set aside some time to study and you will be fine.

I’m not really sure what else to write about, but I’m sure there will be more to update on in the next few weeks.  Rushing for guys ends this week which means after Friday, there will be parties galore.  The first football game is also this weekend against Albany State.  I have heard it is supposed to be a good game, but I’m going home for the first time because there is no class on Monday.  On that note, I’m out.  I will be sure to keep you posted as the semester unfolds…
