October 7, 2008

It has been a long time since I had time to blog, I have been so busy, I knew cheerleading and school would take up a lot of my time, but I had no idea.  Let’s got back to parent’s weekend, that was Sept. 19-21, it was fabulous, it was a chance for all the parents to come to the college and kind of get a feel for what campus life is like for us.  My parents came, even my brother, they had a great time, they participated in all the activities that they had planed and of course attended the football game, and yes we did win, it was a slow start but we pulled it off.  Even on that weekend being a cheerleader requires you to participate in community activities, that weekend we had a clinic for the young future cheerleaders, that was so much fun, the girls were ages seven to eleven, they were so excited to be around us, it was like we were there heroes, it is nice to be such an inspiration to someone.  They can’t wait to come to college and become cheerleaders, that was so much fun, but what a long day, after the clinic we had the game, don’t get me wrong we had a good time, but boy was I tired when the day was over.

I have to say all good things have to come to an end sometimes, we had our next home game October 9th against Delta State, it was on TV, it was a Thursday night so my parents could not come, but they did see me on TV.  Unfortunately we did loose this game (in double overtime!!!), but that is okay, I know we will still have a very successful season.

During all of this we were having tryouts for the competition squad for cheerleading, we cheer for all the football/basketball games, but the season is not over after that, we have a competition in April, and we have two teams who compete.  We have an all-girls team which consist of sixteen girls and a coed team which has twenty members.  That was the most nerve racking week of my life, I wanted to make either team,  it did not matter, but yes I did make the all-girls team, I was so excited and proud of myself, again hard work does pay off.

On top of all of this yes we have mid-terms, being a college student along with being a student athlete really takes a lot of discipline, I managed to get A’s and B’s in all my classes with only one C, I will bring that up.  But that is not bad for the schedule that I have had to deal with, practice three days a week, and workouts two days a week, a game or exhibition, clinic or even practice on Saturday.  On top of all of that I have to find time to study and go to classes, I am really proud of myself, and my parents were proud of me too.  I am a full believer that if you put your mind to it you can do anything.

Homecoming is coming up, my parents are coming down for that game too, they are having a cheer parent’s tent before the game, they are so excited, me too, and I know it will be yet another exciting weekend, I will keep you posted.  B L A Z E R S Go Blazers Go!!!!!!!

PS:  I still have time for friends, we go out and have fun, so its not all work, you have to come to Valdosta, you get to experience everything. Like I said I will keep you posted, I know I will have a lot more to report, this experience is amazing, I love college, I think I finally got it (smile).
