Homecoming Week This past week has been jam packed with activities and competitions. I loved it, but man am I glad it only comes once a year! I can finally get back to studying... The activity that I decided to take part in is called Lipsync. We practiced dancing and lip syncing to various songs to go along with our theme of Tradition. Other pledge sisters and fraternity pledges (who we were paired with) worked on the homecoming parade float, sidewalk chalk, bake-off, etc. One tradition during homecoming week is “raiding.” This is where the pledges from all the fraternity’s guard their frats symbol all week til 8 o’clock in the morning! At different times during the night, each of the sorority pledges attempt to capture/deface each fraternity’s symbol. This can be done by a variety of strategies: pelting the boys with a mixture of disgusting materials (I washed my hair twice and the smell still wouldn’t come out!), paint, or eggs, and also by pure brute force! As I attempted to capture one of these symbols from one of these fraternities, I was picked up and tossed by one of the boys, resulting in an awful sprained ankle! Since this was the night before lip sync, I was no longer able to perform what I had worked so hard on. But it was still worth it! I spent the rest of homecoming week on crutches, but you can bet I worked those things! There were also concerts and the game to attend. A huge highlight of the week was that one of the older sisters in Chi Omega won homecoming queen – Abbey!! It was definitely a blast and I can’t wait to help the new girls next year with it. Go Blazers and go Chi O!
