Final Entry

Looking back on my freshman year here at Valdosta State, I can definitely say that it was a great one! I have certainly learned a lot about college life. I found that while it was really nice having a room and bathroom to myself in Hopper, it also makes meeting people a little more difficult than in a traditional residence hall. Since I didn’t share that common space with other students, I had less opportunity to meet hall mates than some of my friends did.

Also, I think that my position in the Student Government Association is my favorite campus involvement! I really love working with my fellow senators to make a difference in students’ lives on campus and I can’t wait to see what we can do next year! However, while I found that SGA was the place for me, I also realized that sorority was not. The priorities of the sorority were not in alignment with my own and I made the decision to revoke my membership. Looking back on how excited I was about recruitment and what I thought sorority would be is a lot different than it actually was. I do, however, think that going through recruitment can be a great way to meet people, even if you don’t pledge a sorority! (Plus you get to move in a day early! Haha)

As you may have noticed on the Admissions webpage, it states that my major is Political Science; that too has changed this year! I took an entry level Geology course to fulfill my science core and completely fell in love with it, making Environmental Geosciences my new major and passion. I took my second course this past spring, and am about to embark on a Maymester field trip for the next two and a half weeks for my major! I feel that every upcoming freshman should start out as an Undecided major and see where their first year takes them.

I was lucky enough to end my year with a bang and keep my 4.0 GPA. Although this year is over, many more things await me this fall at Valdosta State. I have a possible co-op position thanks to the Career Services department on campus, I will begin my position as Secretary of Sigma Alpha Chi Honor Society, I will be a returning Senator in SGA, and thanks to joint-enrollment and summer classes I will finally be a junior!!

Thanks a lot for keeping track of my blogs, and if you ever have a question about the wonderful Valdosta State University, just get in touch with me.
