Hello, How, Buenos Dias, Guten Tag and a big Wazzup to my fellow VSU Blazers!
Hmm, so what else shall I put here? Well, I'll start with my name. I'm Darrell, and I'm originally from Gary, Indiana (Home of the Steel Mills and The Jackson 5), and I have lived in Las Vegas, California, and currently reside in Georgia. I would say I'm a pretty laidback person (Sometimes TOO laidback) and as long as you're friendly and an overall good person, we'll probably end up friends. One of my favorite things to do is read, and I’ve been doing it since I was 2 years old. Alex Haley's Queen, The Bluest Eye, Cane River, and Beloved currently rank at the top of my list of favorite books.(For now, at least. It always changes.)
Anyways, I’m pretty hyped about attending Valdosta State University in the fall! I knew it was the college I was going to attend once I visited the great campus. High School was cool, but for the most part everything was too restrained and at times, kind of monotonous. As a freshman, I was a really introverted guy with everything to see but nothing much to say. I think being involved in so many clubs including, FBLA, DECA, Spanish Club, Reading Competition Team, African Club, Chorus, Drama, Math team, and Student Council really helped me become more outgoing and confident.
I believe being in Valdosta State's Emerging Leaders program is going to help me to open up even more. Currently my major is undecided, but I am considering either be a Pre-Med, so I can become an obstetrician and help bring new life into the world; or a journalist, so I can say what I feel or write about important issues in the world; or Mass Media/Communications, so I can help contribute to the world of television, film, or video.
But for now, I’m just ready to experience Valdosta State University with an open mind and fully anticipate all the rewards that will follow. Watch out, VSU, this time Darrell is going full throttle!
