Examples of Gifts to VSU

Need-Based Scholarships
Need-based scholarships are a strategic priority for VSU over the next decade in an effort to achieve a more diversified student body and to award scholarship funds to students who demonstrate financial need and good academic credit. Currently, the University offers 30-40 privately funded need-based scholarships each year.

While the HOPE Scholarship covers the cost of tuition for VSU students with a B average or better, many students are challenged to meet annual living costs, including room and board, travel and mandatory fees not covered by HOPE. Federal grants and work study programs alleviate some of this need, but many students are still forced to rely heavily on student loans. Private grants go far in reducing or eliminating these loan burdens for student recipients. To request further information, please contact one of our staff members.

Endowed Professorships or Chairs
Corporations interested in making a lasting gift to Valdosta State University may consider endowing, or helping to endow, a professorship or chair. A corporation may give its name to the professorship or chair, or it may choose to honor a key individual by establishing a chair in his/her name pending approval by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents. Each endowed professorship or chair becomes a living memorial to the donor's belief in intellectual values and social responsibility. The donor, the person in whose honor the donor may choose to name the professorship or chair, each successive holder and the University all share in the prestige that surrounds it. At VSU, the roster of endowed professorships and chairs stand as an honor roll of the most distinguished faculty members in any generation and throughout history.
