Call Numbers for the Instructional Materials Collection

Accession Numbers

When an accession number is called for, consult the catalog for the appropriate range of numbers and assign the next available number.

Children's Books

Leave the LC call number in the bib record 050 (or 090), and add the LZ as a call number prefix in the MFHD 852 subfield $k. We used to change 050 tags to 099s so we could add the prefix "LZ" to the call number in the bibliographic record

For children's literature, if there is no LC call number, class the item in LZ PZ 7 as follows:

PZ

Author's Cutter Number
First Two Letters of Title
Date

For children's nonfiction, if there is no LC call number, assign an appropriate class number for the topic.
