Collection and Resource Services is a combined technical services and collection development department.  It is composed of three functional units, each led by a professional librarian.

The Acquisitions and Collection Development unit works with academic department coordinators, librarian liaisons, donors, and others to build the libraries' collections in support of the academic mission of the university. The department is also responsible for book repairs, binding, and the withdrawal of damaged or obsolete materials.

We are a member of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) and participate in two of their programs. The first is the Subject Authority COoperative (SACO). Valdosta State is currently the only active contributor to the program in the state. SACO participants create new Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms (LCGFT), Library of Congress Demographic Terms (LCDGT), and new Library of Congress Classification (LCC) numbers that can be used by any library in the world also using these cataloging tools.

The second program we participate in is the Name Authority COoperative (NACO), and Valdosta State is the hub for the Georgia NACO Funnel. This body creates authorized versions of names, corporate bodies, events, and even geographic locations (when they are also a governing body like City of Valdosta) used in library catalogs. Working in an international database called WorldCat, the Cataloging Unit creates new records and enhances legacy records to meet the ever changing needs of online researchers. We catalog books, audio and video recordings, games, online publications, and a myriad of other formats of items found in libraries and archives.

The Electronic Resources and Serials unit manages the access of electronic resources and print serials.  Responsibilities include activation of resources, troubleshooting technical problems, maintenance of holdings information, and the claiming and binding of print journals.
