Clinical Competency in Trauma

Overview

This workshop will introduce an overview of trauma, how to assess it and how it affects the body.  An introduction to trauma and psychological first aid will be provided in the beginning of the workshop.  Then appropriate trauma assessments will be introduced.  An overview of how trauma affects the body will be provided.  Last, an introduction to Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and how it can best be used with clients who have experienced trauma.  The workshop will then help participants learn how to prioritize appropriate challenges for the clients so they aren't taking too much risk to increase client's cooperation.  Practical tools will be introduced that can be used within the counseling session to better understand trauma and work with a client experiencing trauma.

Fees: 

General Attendees:

  • $75 on or before June 15, 2017
  • $90 after June 15, 2017

Students:

  • $40 - valid student ID required 

Workshop Fees include*:

  • One professional Certificate of Attendance documenting continuing education hours (see registration form for details)

Refund Policy:

Full refunds, minus a $5 or 5% processing fee (whichever is greater), will be given by contacting the Continuing Education office at 229-245-6484 or emailing conted@valdosta.edu on or before July 7, 2017. No refunds will be given for cancellations requests received after July 7, 2017, but registrants may send a substitute. Please notify us of the substitution as soon as possible.

*Registration fees collected include $17 toward conference meals and refreshments.
