VSU Choirs Present Holiday Concert in West Hall Rotunda Dec. 4-5

VALDOSTA — The Valdosta State University Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir, Chamber Singers, and Spotlighters will present their annual holiday candlelight concert in the West Hall Rotunda at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, and 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. Tickets are on sale now.

“Christmas is the season to think of family and friends, decorations and gifts, and the religious origins of the holiday,” shared Dr. Carol Krueger, director of VSU’s Choral Studies Program. “Most of all, Christmas is a holiday that is filled with music. Carols, those wonderfully familiar songs associated with this holiday, help to foster the special feelings this holiday brings — hope, cheer, giving, and sharing. The concert will be a lively celebration of the season featuring familiar and endearing seasonal favorites, along with a few new discoveries. The students and I are looking forward to celebrating the season through music with the Valdosta community in the beautiful rotunda of West Hall.”

The holiday candlelight concert will feature nearly two dozen musical selections and will open with all of the choral groups coming together to perform “I Wonder as I Wander,” a traditional Appalachian carol, and Allen H. Koepke’s “Come Ye, Come All Ye People,” a double choir piece built around “O Come All Ye Faithful.” It will end with all the choral groups circling the audience for “Silent Night,” composed by Franz Gruber.

Tickets for the annual holiday concert are $20 for adults and $10 for students and are available by visiting www.ticketreturn.com/boxoffice or calling the College of the Arts Outreach Office at (229) 333-2150.

Proceeds from the holiday concert will benefit recruiting tours and performances scheduled during the spring.
