Community Invited to Breathe Easy 5K Run/Walk and Health Expo for Asthma Awareness May 16

VALDOSTA – The Jerome Alston Memorial Foundation and the Valdosta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will host a Breathe Easy 5K Run/Walk and Health Expo for Asthma Awareness at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, at the Valdosta State University Student Recreation Center.

Race day registration begins at 7 a.m., followed by a group stretch and warmup at 8:15 a.m. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. in front of the VSU Student Recreation Center located on Sustella Avenue.

A first place award will be given to the overall top male and female participants, as well as the top male and female participants in the ages 7-17 and 18-plus categories.

Advance registration is $15 for participants under the age of 18 and $20 for all other participants. Registration on the day of the event is an additional $5. Team registration is available and ghost runner donations are welcome. All participants will receive a T-shirt if registered by May 10. Visit http://www.be5k.org to register for the event online.

A free health and fitness expo will take place for race participants and members of the general public beginning at 8:30 a.m. Local health care and fitness professionals will be available to offer asthma and allergy literature, free health care screenings, free samples, and give demonstrations and showcase their services.

Sponsorship opportunities for the event are available. Sponsors who donate between $100 and $500 will have their name and company logo printed on the Breathe Easy 5K Run/Walk T-shirt, one-mile marker sign, all social media pages promoting the event, and the event website.

Proceeds from the event will support asthma education efforts and benefit the Jerome Alston Memorial Foundation and the South Health District Children’s Medical Services.
