Alpha Chi National Honor Society Conducts Book Drive

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University’s chapter of Alpha Chi National Honor Society has partnered with WorldWide Book Drive to promote global literacy and education by conducting a campus- and community-wide book drive now through the month of April.

Ashley D. Fowler, society president, said all types of books, in any condition, are welcome. Most of the books will be donated to organizations and communities who need them. Heavily used books will be recycled; WorldWide Book Drive creates job opportunities for disabled adults through this endeavor.

Alpha Chi National Honor Society will receive $1 for every donated textbook published within the last five years, and those funds will benefit a literacy program in South Georgia, Fowler said.

Collection boxes are located at Nevins Hall, the Fine Arts Building, the James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services, and the Health Sciences and Business Administration Building.

Alpha Chi is a coeducational academic honor society. Since 1922 its purpose has been to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honor those who achieve such distinction. Membership is limited to the top 10 percent of juniors, seniors, and graduate students at colleges and universities that have a chapter of Alpha Chi.
