WVVS Blaze FM’s Blazefest Returns Saturday, April 26

VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University’s student-operated radio station, WVVS Blaze FM’s Blazefest returns to the VSU front lawn and the Valdosta music scene at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 26.

Blazefest 2014, sponsored by The Gates at Valdosta and Main Squeeze, the event highlights local bands and artists.  The concert provides the unique opportunity for students and community members to listen and dance to local music for free.

The 2014 Blazefest music line-up consists of eight local bands, which the station crew hand-selected for the concert. The station’s current and upcoming officers have been planning Blazefest 2014 since January and Clairice Contevita, station manager, expects the concert to be a success.

“My expectations are for Blazefest 2014 to be bigger than last year’s concert,” Contevita said. “There are more bands this year and most of the bands know each other and are all connected to VSU or to businesses that work with VSU students. It definitely shows the bond of music between Valdosta and VSU.”

The headlining act is an Indie Rock group called The Dredges. Last year, the Dredges were new to the local music scene and surprised many with their talented performance. As headliners, The Dredges will receive 60 minutes of playing time rather than the 30 minutes the seven other bands will receive.

Other bands and artists to look for at Blazefest 2014 are:
·       Amilli Divanni - rap artist (VSU Campus Activity Board president and only female performer)
·       Eggwater Palace - Southern Rock
·       Me and My M80 - Alternative Rock
·       Colter MF Raines - Acoustic Guitar (Alternative)
·       John Weeks - Acoustic Guitar (Alternative)
·       Byrd - Hip-Hop
·       Oddly Known - Hip Hop

The concert is expected to end by 9 p.m.
