VSU's Junior Jackson Publishes Book, Hopes to Inspire Others

VALDOSTA — Junior Jackson, senior marketing major at Valdosta State University, recently published a book, How The World Has Impacted Me! And How I Plan To Return The Favor!

Jackson, who plans to graduate in May 2014 with a degree in marketing and a minor in political science, credits VSU with helping him to achieve creativity and ambition and for giving him the chance to let those traits manifest in him.

How The World Has Impacted Me! And How I Plan To Return The Favor! shows the struggles of Jackson and the struggles of those around him. It even recalls some history and makes social comments on today’s world and the people in it.

Jackson said he wrote the book with the intention of inspiring and encouraging those around him.  At an early age, he lost his father, and shortly after, he began his battle with cancer found in his leg that led to surgery and a prosthetic.

Despite the difficulties, Jackson triumphed and began giving back to the community. He has volunteered for Blazing through Books, a community service program based out of the James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services’ Ruby R. Sullivan Literacy Center. He also plans to assist JaTaryia Thomas with the Cash Prosperity Campaign, a nonprofit organization that promotes financial self-sufficiency and stability.

“Ambition and drive come from within,” said Jackson, “and if you don’t believe in yourself, that’s when you get lost in the middle.”

Jackson believes helping others rise above their struggles and circumstances is his destiny.

“It’s crazy how God works in mysterious ways,” he said. “You’ll find that if you believe, a door will always open for you.”
