Active for Life
VALDOSTA -- VSU’s Campus Wellness has designed a ten-week program called Active for Life that will run Sept. 17 through Nov. 26. This employee fitness challenge encourages employees to be more active on a regular basis by setting personal fitness goals.
Teams of faculty, staff and student employees are created to support and motivate each other. Employees can choose to participate at the bronze, silver or gold level based on their abilities and preferences. Bronze equals 10-29 minutes a day, silver equals 30-59 minutes a day and gold equals 60 or more minutes a day.
Teams earn one point for every one minute of activity, and points are tracked through the American Cancer Society online database or using offline materials.
Recognition and/or prizes are given every two weeks for participants who have met pre-set goals in their selected level. Recognition will also be given to the top five teams at the end of the program.
Regular physical activity has been shown to improve job performance and morale, lower absenteeism and turnover, reduce disability days and lower medical costs. Active for Life is an employee wellness program designed and sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
