15th Annual Lee Anthony Crews Memorial No-Tap Bowling Tournament& Auction

VALDOSTA -- The 15th Annual Lee Anthony Crews Memorial No-Tap Bowling Tournament & Auction will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, at Jac’s Lanes. Check-in and lunch will begin at 11 a.m. before the tournament starts.

The bowling tournament is a five-person team event, and walk-ins are welcomed. The entry fee is $25 per person, and food will be provided for all participating bowlers.

The tournament and auction are a fundraiser for local law enforcement scholarships in memory of Lee Anthony Crews, who served in the U.S. Army and later worked for the Hahira Police Department and Valdosta Police Department. He was shot and later died on January 24, 1984, after catching a suspect that fled the scene of a bank robbery at what used to be C & S Bank (now the Bank of America).

After his death, Crews’s family and Lt. Tim Baker established a memorial at C & S Bank, and each year an award for the officer of the year was presented a plaque at this memorial. In 2011, the family decided to change directions and began the Lee Anthony Crews Memorial Scholarship Fund in conjunction with Valdosta State University Foundation, Inc., to establish a scholarship for local VSU students in the counties of Berrien, Brooks, Cook, Echols, Lanier and Lowndes majoring in criminal justice.
