Golden Isles Alumni Host Oyster Roast

VALDOSTA -- The Valdosta State University Alumni Association and the latest alumni chapter, the Golden Isles Blazer Club, invite alumni and friends to an Oyster Roast from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, at Gnats Landing, 310 Redefern Village, on St. Simons Island.

One of the group's founding members Robyn Rotunda, '02, said the oyster roast is an opportunity for the region’s VSU community to network as they enjoy seafood and plan for future alumni gatherings and events.

"There is such a large population of Valdosta State alumni in the area, so it just makes sense to form an alumni chapter in the Golden Isles," said Rotunda, director of membership services for the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce. "Our first event will be a great opportunity to meet alumni and plan events to support future students, give back to the university and engage in local service opportunities on behalf of VSU."

Members of the host committee include: Bart Altman, ’93, Heather Rhodes Drury, ’00, William Ligon, ’83, Mark Love, ’90, Fred McGinty, ’70, Amber Mack, Andy and Jenni Morris, Emmitt Nolan, ’01, Tallie Hastings Pipken, ’02, Robyn Rotunda, ’02, Mark, ’82, and Adair Spaulding, Sam Tostensen, Sr. ’79, Sam Tostensen, Jr., Bonita Tanner, ’91, Tim and Georgia, ’05, Wessinger.
