Important Dates for the Beginning of the 2010-11 Academic Year

VALDOSTA -- Valdosta State University has set dates for important events, which mark the beginning of its 2010-11 academic year. See below for a listing and details for each.

Monday, Aug. 9: Convocation
Valdosta State University's eighth president, Dr. Patrick J. Schloss will address the campus community at 10 a.m. in the Fine Arts Building's Whitehead Auditorium. The presentation will air live on VSU-TV, channel 20 on Medicom. Rebroadcasts can be viewed at 10:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9; 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10; 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11; 1 p.m. and 11 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12; noon Saturday, Aug. 14, and noon and 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15.

Following convocation, faculty and staff members are invited to a luncheon in Palms Dining Center.

Monday-Wednesday, Aug. 9-11: New Faculty Orientation
New part-time faculty members can learn about life at VSU during an orientation session from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, in Odum Library, Room 3270. New full-time faculty can attend several orientation sessions, including "VSU and You," from 3:15-4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, in the University Center Theatre, "Preparing for Life in the VSU Classroom" from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, in Odum Library, and "Preparing for Life in the VSU Workplace" from 2-4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, in Odum Library.

All new faculty members are invited to the opportunities fair and reception from 4:15-5:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, in the University Center Magnolia Room 2 and Rose Room. Visit the University Center Dogwood Room during this time to have an official VSU photograph taken.

Wednesday-Friday, Aug 11-13: Student Move-in Days
VSU students will move into residence halls over a period of three days. Freshmen assigned to Patterson, Reade, Converse and Georgia Halls will move in between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, and those assigned to Lowndes, Hopper, Brown and Langdale will move in from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12. Upperclassmen assigned to Centennial, Georgia and Hopper will settle in from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13.

VSU community members are encouraged to be considerate as the new students arrive by assisting with directions and questions as needed as well as avoiding parking lots on main campus and the surrounding lots on Georgia. Faculty and staff members will be able to park near the Office of Admissions, the University Center, the Alumni House and the Oak Street Deck and surface lot.
