Williford Named Student Employee of the Year

VALDOSTA -- Valdosta State University's Student Employment Office named Randall Williford the 2010 Student Employee of the Year on Thursday, April 15.

A math tutor since fall 2008, Williford has proved to be a dedicated leader in the Student Success Center. Supervisor Dr. Chere Peguesse said his positive, easy-going attitude instantly calms nervous and frustrated students and his responsible reliable work ethic sets a solid example for all who know him.

"Randall models high standards and a solid work ethic that influences other students and will surely lead him to a successful career," said Peguesse, who serves as SSC director. "He boasts the kind of honesty, friendliness and service-oriented attitude we want students to aspire to at VSU."
Williford is committed to professional development, completing more than 30 hours of training about best practices in tutoring and more than 100 hours of live tutoring. He is known for frequently taking the lead during exercises and providing practical suggestions for improvement.

Students often praise him for his process, which empowers them to work through complicated problems and discover answers with patient guidance from their tutor. Many credit his tutoring as the reason for their own personal successes.

"His ability to connect with his tutees abound," said Tutor Coordinator Terence Sullivan."He possesses a combination of intellect, empathy and ability that make him a great asset to the SSC, his tutees and any other endeavor in which he participates."

Williford was honored as part of National Student Employment Week, which ends Saturday, April 17. VSU's Student Employment Office encourages departments to recognize all the diligent student workers who dedicate their time to serving the university and its mission.
