VSU Walkers Stride Toward a Cruise

VALDOSTA -- Valdosta State University’s Walking Club invites faculty, staff and students to lace up their tennis shoes and walk for a chance to win a three-day cruise for two.

The third annual Walk To Your Summer Vacation Contest requires participants to walk 210 miles -- the distance from Valdosta to Port Canaveral, Fla. -- between February 1 and April 2. Only one participant will win the free cruise, but Campus Wellness will award a host of other prizes for every 50 miles walked. A contest completion party from 2-2:45 p.m. on April 9 will feature the prize drawing, but participants need not be present to win.

Faculty, staff and students interested in participating in the contest must join the walking club, a free program designed to facilitate group or solo walking, and log miles walked between February 1 and April 2 on the program’s Web site, www.valdosta.edu/finadmin/wellness/walking.shtml . Interested participants should bring an $8 entry fee to the Office of Employee and Organizational Development, University Center Room 3103. Cash or check payable to the VSU Foundation are acceptable methods of entry fee payment.

People unable to walk due to a certified medical disability may set up alternative fitness methods to complete contest requirements. The wellness committee and authorized medical advisors will approve exercise options.

The grand prize is a non-refundable certificate redeemable for a three-day cruise for two. Dates, destination and cruise line are subject to change and availability. The winner will set up travel arrangements with Executive Travel of Valdosta. Blackout dates such as holidays may apply.

Registration details, official rules and group walking opportunities are also listed on the Walking Club Web site; but for more information, call Contest Coordinator Shereen Ashtiani at (229) 259-5105 or e-mail her at smashtiani@valdosta.edu.
