TitleTown Jazz Concert

VALDOSTA - Valdosta area jazz ensembles will collaborate for the first time during the “TitleTown” Jazz Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in the Fine Arts Building’s Whitehead Auditorium.

Valdosta State University’s Department of Music is hosting the free concert, which will feature performances by the VSU Jazz Ensemble, directed by instructor David Springfield; the VSU New Jazz Ensemble, directed by assistant professor Joren Cain; the Lowndes High School Jazz Ensemble, directed by Charles Todd II, ’85; and the Valdosta High School Jazz Ensemble, directed by Andrew Hill, ’04.

“The concert should be special because it will truly be a Valdosta community event, bringing together the jazz ensembles from VSU and the local high schools,” said David Springfield, director of Jazz Studies at VSU. “I also hope it will celebrate the role that music (specifically jazz) plays in our educational institutions, and will demonstrate the enthusiasm and dedication exhibited by all the students involved.”

Springfield said the department encourages the public to come and experience the wide variety of rhythms that define this exciting and uniquely American art form.
