Dinner Honors VSU's Academic Leaders

VALDOSTA - The best and brightest at Valdosta State University were awarded at the Academic Honors Dinner held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in the Magnolia Room of the University Center.

The elegant evening dinner replaced the traditional awards day ceremony held in previous years. The students honored possess the highest academic achievements that the university has to offer. Each award was determined by a separate set of individuals based on specific criteria, yet all are indicative of intelligence, effort, hard work and dedication. The following students were recipients of the university’s top honors:

Jeffery M. Felton - Outstanding Male Athlete Award
Kristen Lindsey - Outstanding Female Athlete Award
Melissa Daugherty - University System of Georgia Academic Recognition Day Award
Mary Rosenkrans - Alpha Lambda Delta Marie Leonard Book Award.
Jessica Bryan - American Association of University Women Award; William M. Morrow Top Political Science Student Award
Shannon Upchurch - Clare Philips Martin Scholarship
Baqara Ngoyi - Bartram Award for Intellectual Exploration
Christopher Benson - Most Outstanding AS300 Cadet Award
Richard B. Estes - Outstanding College of the Arts Award
Katheryn Klimko - Outstanding Student in the Arts and Sciences
Daniel J. Housley - Wall Street Journal Achievement Award
Emily Rebecca McGill - College of Education Highest Academic Achievement Award
Amanda Becton - Outstanding Nursing Student Award
