City of Valdosta Community Development Director Mara S. Register received the Loyce W. Turner Outstanding Public Official Award for 2005 during a luncheon, Wednesday, April 20, at Valdosta State University.

Register became the seventh recipient of the award, which is presented annually by the Valdosta State University Master of Public Administration Advisory Committee. The award, named after Loyce W. Turner, former Georgia state senator, is given to individuals who serve as role models for those just beginning or contemplating careers in public service.

Four Outstanding Graduate Student Awards were also presented for three tracks offered through the MPA program. The awards will be given to Kevin Gelsthorpe and Emily Perry from the program offered at Moody Air Force Base; Candy Owen from the Kings Bay Naval Base facility; and Dr. Rebecca Reynolds, deputy surgeon for the Air Force Personnel Center at Colorado Springs, Colorado, who is in the On-Line Program.
