Dr. Denise Bogart named Director of Human Resources

Valdosta State University President Ronald M. Zaccari has announced the appointment of Dr. Denise Bogart as Valdosta State's new Director of Human Resources, effective full-time on June 6, 2005. Bogart comes to VSU from the University of Florida in Gainesville, where she has completed seventeen years of progressive and diverse human resources experience.

"We are very pleased to have Dr. Bogart become a member of the Valdosta State University community," said Zaccari, who added that for the first time the Director of Human Resources position will be a member of the President's Cabinet.

"This shows the increasing importance and value we place on the human resources of this University, especially as we continue to pursue our strategic planning goals."

Zaccari said he agrees with Dr. Bogart's philosophy when she states, "the human resources of an organization are its most valuable assets." He said he looks forward to Dr. Bogart's advice and counsel.

Bogart will be in transition to VSU during the months of April and May.

"She will be spending part of each week with our human resources staff getting to know the University System of Georgia policies and procedures," said Jim Black, VSU's Interim Vice President of Business and Finance.

Describing her personal philosophy toward the human resources profession, Bogart additionally stated, "the ongoing training of employees, and the goal to encourage life long learning in staff is a wonderful tool for ensuring employee success when they are confronted with constant and demanding changes in environment."

Bogart is also a member of the adjunct faculty of Santa Fe Community College's Professional Development Center. She serves as an assistant program director at the University of Florida's George Smathers Libraries.

Bogart's responsibilities during her time at Florida have included coordinating and developing the Libraries' personnel policies and practices with those of the university in areas of recruitment, compensation, employee relations, performance review, job analysis, staff development, tenure and promotion, personnel management and records management. In addition, she has served in various human resources leadership positions for the university, including Coordinator of Employee Relations at Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

In her adjunct faculty position at Santa Fe Community College Bogart teaches a "Foundation of Human Resources Management" course.

Bogart received her PhD in Higher Education Administration from the University of Florida in 2003. Her dissertation was titled, "Adult Learning Theory and the Use of the Learning College Principles in Human Resource Development Programs of Large Universities." She also received her M.Ed and B.Sc degrees from the University of Florida.

Bogart is a Certified Professional in Human Resource Management (PHR) and a member of Phi Delta Kappa Honorary, Xi Sigma Pi Honorary, and Alpha Zeta Honorary. She has two children, nine and twelve years old.
