South Georgia high school students recognized for artistic achievement

The Lowndes Valdosta Cultural Arts Center (LVAC) will host an art reception, featuring the best of high school artwork from all of South Georgia, on Friday, Jan. 14, from 3-4 p.m. Karin Murray, director of the Valdosta State University Gallery and organizer of this annual event, said this exhibit is one of the largest to date.

The Friday afternoon awards ceremony will recognize specific student artwork from over 100 entries selected by the art instructors at high schools from throughout the South Georgia region, including: Brooks County, Coffee County, Deerfield Windsor, Irwin County, Lanier County, Lowndes County, Macon Central, Suwannee, and Valdosta.

A panel of VSU art professors reviewed each of the works on display and presented additional awards to the following students:

Best of show: Diana Lin, watercolor painting

Second place 2-D: Kelly Metts

Third Place 2-D: Katie Ward

Honorable Mention 2-D: Julie Becker, Laura Brown, Jason Colvin, Christie Creamer, Amy Henderson, Wesley Hubbard, Michael Thomas Jefferson, Kelly Metts, Lee Rambo, Elizabeth Reed, Chase Rollins, Aryn Rosenbaum, Jennifer Rutledge, Jason Stegall and Katie Ward.

Second Place 3-D: Jason Stegall

Third Place 3-D: Landon Crenshaw

Honorable Mention 3-D: Jason Colvin, Natalie Mai, Carol Mercer.
