Kendric Coleman received his PhD at Lousiana State University. His research interests challenge the assumptions that undergird the constructions of race and gender-politics through interdisciplinary interrogation. Because of these interests, he enjoys teaching courses concerning Contemporary African American Literature, Introduction to African American Studies, and 20th Century American Literature. He has presented and published on topics that include masculinity and the Black male experience in American literature, black women writers and identity and sexuality. He was the recipient of the "African American Studies Teacher of the Year in 2015". His teaching philosophy centers around learning for life: "A good teacher, like a good entertainer first must hold his audience's attention, then he can teach his lesson." -Dr. John Henrik Clarke
