             About me...           
                  
  My name is Lisa Kidd. I am 34 years old and I have two beautiful daughters (ages 5 & 6) and I have been married to Steve for 9 years. We live in Sylvester, Georgia. I received my associates degree in special education from Darton College in 1993. It took me 12 years to realize that I truly wanted to be a teacher! I started attending Valdosta State University in the fall of 2005 with a major in Special Education and I am going to have an interrelated degree in May 2008 (if all goes well).

 

     Like I mentioned before, it took me twelve years to decide if teaching is what I really wanted to do with my life. As a child and teenager, I always wanted to teach young children. After 13 years of schooling I took a year off before I began my college career. I originally started out with a major in Early Childhood Education and changed it when I took a course that required me to tutor in a class with children who had learning disabilities. The teacher in that room talked me into changing my major to Special Education. After I got my Associates degree, again I was tired of all the classes and studying and I decided to take another break. It turned out to be a very long break. My youngest daughter was diagnosed with a type of Autism in February 2005. It was then I decided to complete my degree to help her as well as others like her. I am extremely interested in working with kids that have disabilities because I feel like they need the most help.

        My daughter inspired me to continue my education and become a special education teacher. My sister is also an early childhood teacher of third grade students and she helped talk me into going back to school. In high school I took childcare classes and we had a preschool on campus to help us learn to work with real children. The teacher of that class always praised me and often told me what a wonderful teacher I was going to make.

Here's to the kids who are different.
The kids who don't always get A's,
The kids who have ears twice the size of their peers,
and noses that go on for days...
Here's to the kids who are different,
The kids they call crazy or dumb.
The kids who don't fit, with the guts and the grit,
Who dance to a different drum...
Here's to the kids who are different,
The kids with the mischievious streak,
For when they have grown, as history shows,
It's their difference that makes them unique.
