A Little Something About Me:
Email Me
My
name is
Amy Leigh Hughes (soon to be Amy McClendon). I'm a
country girl at heart. I grew up on a farm in Manor,
Georgia. I enjoy reading, playing with baby animals, being
outdoors, tractor pulling, spending time with my family, and anything
that involves working with kids. I am a member of New Prospect
United Methodist Church. I lived in Tifton while I was attending
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and worked at Mother's Love
Childcare Center. I now am working part-time as a legal assistant
at Gibson and Associates, P.C.
I
recently got engaged to Jeffery McClendon.
We met at ABAC. He is currently an Agriculture Major at UGA's Tifton
Campus. We are currently planning to get married May 31, 2008,
when I graduate with my Masters Degree. I am very excited.
My Nieces - Courtney is 6 and
Colleen just turned 1

This is my tractor that I am
currently pulling at the Hillside Mini
Tractor Pull in Rochelle, Georgia.
Why I Want to Be a Teacher:
I
have always felt led in the
direction of education. Everyone
tells me I have a natural gift for working with children. I want
to make a difference in the lives of my students. When I am
working with children who are struggling to grasp a concept for the
first time, and they suddenly understand and smiles light their faces,
it is like no other feeling in the world. To be a witness to
those "a-ha" moments is a blessed thing.
I have also worked with several students who have
had disabilities. One child in particular had muscular
dystrophy. At the beginning of his preschool year, he could not
play on any of the playground equipment. He could not even cross
the PVC pipe border around the playground by himself. By the end
of a few months with the help of the other teachers and myself giving
him helping hands and encouragement, he could play on every piece of
equipment (with the exception of the fireman's pole). Working with this
child in particular gave me the confidence that I can make a difference
with children who have special needs. To be able to help children
enjoy life as well as learn is a worthwhile goal to me.
Who or What Inspired Me to
Become a Teacher:
I
have been inspired by many people in my life to fulfill my
dreams.
My family, especially my parents and grandparents, have always
supported me following my heart's desires. Many of my own
teachers inspired me in one way or another. The teachers who I
can honestly say their teaching styles are forever ingrained in me were
Roseanne Deas (2nd and 3rd grade), Patricia Mills (5th grade), Susan
Hinesley (2nd-8th gifted program) and
Lizzy Sutton (High School Math). All of the teachers at Ware
County Magnet School had positive influences on me, but there is not
enough room to list them all here.
I also believe
that God has a plan for my life. He has definitely been leading
me toward education. "For I know the plans that I have for
you," declares the Lord,
"Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a
future." Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
My favorite Vacation
Spot:
Every summer we go to visit my Uncle and Aunt
who
live on Smith Mountain Lake, near Rocky Mount, Virginia. We pass
the time fishing, riding jet skis, taking boat rides to see the
beautiful scenery spanning the 500 plus miles of shoreline. I
recommend visiting during the Fourth of July. There are 3 nights
of fireworks over the lake. I have to say it is a spectacular
sight to see.

Where I Work:
I am
currently working as a legal assistant at this firm.
I started this job because I needed to work part-time while going to
school. I had legal experience from being a member of the Ware
Magnet Mock Trial Team in high school. I love working there, but
I still feel more at home in a classroom.
My Favorite Sports Team:
Clemson
Football
I have been a Tiger fan since the day I was born. My daddy has a
Civil Engineering degree from Clemson University. We have cheered
from the stands of Death Valley, the Gator Bowl and our living
room. *I am still coming to terms with the fact my fiance` is a
DAWG.*
Best Book
Deals:
Scholastic Book Club

Whether you are a parent looking for quality children's literature at
budget prices or a teacher trying to expand your classroom library,
Scholastic is the place for you. I love to read, so I often order
from Scholastic. It even has neat tools for
teachers, like a classroom setup tool for rearranging your room without
your husband or the janitor having to move it ten times!
Favorite
Store (at the moment):
David's Bridal
Since
I am actively planning my wedding I love looking at the styles at
David's Bridal. They also have really great deals. Can you
tell I'm excited about getting married???
